Cars Lover

June 1, 2006

WH is a cars lover. Besides playing clay and dough, the only thing that can keep him quiet and occupy is CARS. He can sit there quietly by himself for 1/2 hour just playing all his cars. Basically he holds his car whenever he goes and whatever he’s doing. He holds his car when he’s sleeping, pooing, eating, sitting in the car, going kai kai even when in the shopping mall, he holds his car when watching TV. He does not have a favourite, he swap the car he’s holding every so often. Generally he loves those metal matchbox cars (Though on the instruction it said “Choking hazard, not suitble for kids 0-3, but still we let him play with it). Not those big plastic ones.

We have helped him to start off his cars collection. Last weekend we went to toys’rus to buy the container for him to store his cars. Japanese TOMY brand. Cannot find any other nice suitable carrier.

Brought him to the paed the other day. The paed has got a toy car decoration on the shelf in the room, WH kept pointing at it and make a fuss wanted to get it. Let him play the car at the play area, when we were suppose to go, he wants to bring back the car as well. I have to basically snatch from him and put it back. He was really making a scene for it. (Have to train him that not everything he wants he can have it, when it’s not yours, have to give it back)

Same thing, went to my parents place , he also insist on taking back the toy car at my parent’s place. Since the grandparents a bit spoilt him, so I cannot insist on him leaving behind the car.

I was reading the newspaper just now. There is a page where they advertise a sleek Jaguar car. Shown it to WH. He was savouring at it. I flipped to another page continue reading, so happen there’s another Savy. Shown it to him as well. But he lost interest, he tried to flip back to look for the Jaguar, so I have to put the newspaper upright for him to look at the car while I continue reading the newspaper. Flipped to another page, there is a Jeep.
ME: “WH, look Big Foot”
WH look at the page, climb down to the bed, took his big foot. He then climb back up, put the car on the page and go “vroom vroom vroom”. Very fast, he lost interest on that too. Time to nap, put the papers away. Wanted to nurse him, but he make a fuss. So took a car for him to hold. Still not good enough, he was shaking his head. He then crawl to the newspaper, flipped through it, found the Jaguar ad, pulled out the page and gave it to me.
ME:” You want to put this here?” (indicating next to him)
WH nodded. Put him down, let him hold his car, put the newspaper next to him, nurse him and he fell asleep straight away contently. See..my son has got taste!! Between a Savy, Jeep and Jaguar, he has choosen the sleek Jaguar. :D

Told JS this coming Saturday is a public holiday because it’s Agong’s Birthday.
JS : ” Ah Kong (grandfather) birhtday? *sparkle in her eyes* Got cake or not? Can eat or not?”
ME: “No, not Ah Kong, is Agong the king’s birthday. No cake, just holiday for us”

JS loves to be involved with adult’s chores. She loves to help the maid with the housework, she loves helping me with kitchen chores (baking, cooking), she loves helping SIL on her make up. Now another favourite part of her chore is to lay the dinner table, and serve the rice and dishes. Initially I was quite scare she would drop and break everything, but she’s quite good at it, so far. Anyway, we need to give them the freedom to try and expose to things within the safety. So I guess I would just let her be.

Another favourite chinese words from JS “哇,漂亮喔!”. She would quote that on everything that’s pretty. She no longer say “wah, so pretty” or “wah, so nice” It’s quite fun to hear her say that

JS likes to carry WH like an adult these days. I’m so scared that she would hurt baby’s neck. Everytime when I’m not looking and when WH is lying down, she would go try to carry him up.

JS was coughing into the potty last night, WH saw her, follow her behind and try to cough into the potty at the same time. He also try to pat and rub JS’s back when she’s coughing. How sweet to look at them caring for each other.

JS loves cutting paper.
JS:”Mummy, you know , I likeeee cutting very much”
Left her alone to do cutting. All quiet for a while. Then
JS:” Mummy, I finish already. Don’t want to cut anymore”
I try to go to her to clean the mess and I saw chunck of hair.
ME:”Why there’s hair. Why you cut your own hair” (Neutral tone, actually I find it funny. Never even raise my voice to scold her)
JS started crying straight away as if been caught red handed. I know how much she loves to have long hair and she even point to one of her short hair picture and said ” look, this one with short hair, not nice)
JS:”Itchy. Itchy here. Mummy wash hair” Still crying and crying.
Lucky she didn’t cut herself or the brother.

Later on, after she’s settled she said to me in a matter of fact tone :”Mummy, because you never look after me , that’s why I cut my hair.” (yucks…my fault pulak)

JS choosen a book for me to read. It a book about the human body
First page, a picture of the body anatomy
JS: “Mummy, see, the doctor’s office also got this picture. Hang on the wall one”

ME: “Do you know why we sneeze?” (It’s a question on one page of the book)
JS: (think a little) “So germs and bacteria will come out” (yes, she said that before I tell her the answer on the book. She learned that while watching discovery channel with daddy)

ME: “When you reach about age 6, all your milk teeth will slowy drop” (Page about teeth)
JS: “OOh…no teeth already, then how I’m going to eat?”
ME: “Big teeth will grow after the milk teeth drop off “

ME: “Do you know where baby come from?”
JS:” From tummy”
JS: ” Mummy I want meimei”
ME: “Later, when you 5 years old lah”
JS: “Don’t want, I want 4 years old. Put meimei in your tummy”

JS was at a Manja phase since late evening yesterday. Alot of yiwoyiwo from her trying to seek my attention. I know she’s putting on a show only, because there’s this total change in her tone when she saw an insect on the wall. She tried to hit it and said “Box you” and the tone is those energetic mischievious tone. After the insect fell off, she immediately change her tone again to the yiwoyiwo mummbling tone.

Still havent’ got over her manja phase when bed time approach. Kids rolling on the bed. WH tried to pull and snatch my brand new glasses. He grabs and hold it so tight, that any moment my new glasses will break. I hit his hand real hard for the first time and put on a very stern serious face. JS saw I hit WH, and since it was a first time and I still look so stern , she quickly turn from Manja Queen to a Sweet Angel.
JS:” Mummy, I’m not rough”
JS:”Mummy, why you angry with didi”
JS:” Mummy, I love you so much”
And also she immediately turn into a loving caring sister. (WH still crying hard)
JS:”See, flu come out already, I wipe for you, you wait first huh, later I come” (Went to fetch tissue)
JS:” I want to wipe didi”
JS:” I want to sayang didi”
JS:”Stop crying..come blow” (blow nose) Give WH the Tigger bolster
JS: (holding bolster as though it can talk) “why you cry?” (Let Tigger kiss WH’s forehead)
JS: “where pain?” “here ah”

Many times JS still has sign of insecurity and seeking attention. But generally she’s very well behaved and understanding. She’s also a loving, caring and protective sister.

TV Programme Preview

June 1, 2006

Hubby has got a habit to tune into the TV news during dinner time or after dinner. This is our family routine and the whole family got to sit down together, watch TV, chat, JS would watch News together with us, asking us alot of questions when she doesn’t understand/puzzled over the screenshots or what’s reported over the news.

One thing I don’t understand and don’t like is that why do the TV stations have to air those horror movie preview during news break time?? Those really scary and violent movie sneak preview (maybe scary to my extend, but I feel it’s certainly not suitable to be viewed by very young kids) Those programmes (Rated 18-xx) are meant to be aired after 10pm. No?? But throughout the day, no matter what programme (including kids hours)is on, during break/advertisement time, they still air the preview. All the TV stations are the same. Don’t the TV station ever think of the young kids? As parents, would you let your kids watch the preview, as if there is no big deal?

For us, hubby would always try to change the channel as fast as possible, at the same time we would call out JS’s name (hoping to distract her stare from the TV) while we change the channel. We would say “Dont watch” or just plain “JS”, sometimes we just turn off the TV. There were times that I have to quickly grab her and cover her eyes. She would ask me in puzzle ” Why ,mummy” I would reply “Nothing, just don’t watch”.

Loving, kissing scene is easier to explain to the kids (just treat it as part of sex education) but bloody violent and horror scenes, how to rationalize it to a very young mind??
