My Kampung Boy

August 26, 2006

Each evening when I’m busy cooking dinner, my maid will entertain the kids in the garden. The kids would kick balls, blow bubbles or just stand and watch the other older kids play by the road side. And almost daily the maid will push WH in the tricycle or the cart….

I like to see my kids play in the garden….so carefree, so kampung style….

Black Forest Butter Cake

August 26, 2006

Another cake post. I love butter cake so much that I bake once a week. :D

Ingredients

  • 200g butter
  • 200g castor sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 200g plain flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 can dark cherry (drained) – since I dont have that, my cake ended up like a marble cake instead
  • 80g chocolate
  • 40ml milk
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1/8tsp bicarbonate of soda

Method

1) Grease baking tin. Preheat oven to 175C

2) Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add in eggs, one at a time, beating thoroughly after each addition

3) Fold in sifted flour and baking powder, mix until well blended. Divide batter into 2 portions

4) Fold in dark cherries into a portion of batter. Spread into prepared tin. ( In my case I ommited folding in dark cherries)

5) melt the chocolate with milk and cocoa powder over hot water, fold into another portion of batter together with soda, mix well. Spread over cherry batter (in my case , plain batter)

6) Bake in oven until cooked
