Homework

I want to rant…

Each time JS brought back home work like this… I would be a SUPER disastified parent and at the verge of pulling her out from the school immediatelly…. I become very “mang zhang” when guiding her doing this kind of homework that I feel there is something very wrong with her school system.

This is what I’m so unhappy about…getting a four years old to write words in between lines, where the kids eyes-hands cordination is still not perfect. I know many school wouldn’t start this until the 2nd half year of the 5 years class, at 4 years old, the kids only require to write in boxes…but JS’s pre-school has been getting her to do this much earlier…and imagine my girl is not even 4….

This is what she wrote by herself…but I have to point on which line and where she’s suppose to start.

This also she wrote by herself….but with a lot of guiding and pointing on where to start and end and also keep reminding her to write the alphabets closely to each other.

This is way too much for her…so I have to write and let her do the tracing instead.

The result if I let her write by her own…. she insisted…but ended up like the above….so I have to erased it off and get her to redo…

Any expert in early childhood education or kid’s development…please englighten me….if this is what to be expected from a 4 years old to acomplish??? For me I personally feel that it’s too much for the kids to cope. I don’t mind her writing in boxes..but not in between lines which might even strain the kids eye sight….

This is acceptable as it’s writing in big boxes…

Note: when I was doing school hunting. One of the school mentioned that the four years old class will start off with alot of sandpaper play and tearing papers (to strenghten the wrist) before actually gettting the kids to do tracing of lines and curves….

i am no expert but it sounds like you are expecting way too much from your 4yo? You did mention that writing between the lines at this age is too early at this age right? I guess that’s when they’d need guidance from us parents to do it the right way and eventually they will catch on…

I’m not expecting too much from JS, but this is what the her pre-school is giving her to do and I hated this kind of homework so much and I feel like pulling her out from the school. I feel that this school does not understand kid’s development

True that a lot of guidance have to be given, but sometimes when she cannot follow, I tend to be very frustrated though I know it’s too much to expect from her….

When my niece was 4 yrs old..she gotto sit for exam..and it’s not easy easy exam. Everyday she has around 8 pages of homework. By the 3rd year, she’s being punished by her teacher(stand corner for 2 whole weeks)..why? cos she always walk ard in the class..why? cos she’s bored…learning the same thing for 3 years! I think govment gotto do something/re plan the education program for our kids already!

it’s certainly something very wrong with our school system

At that age, I prefer to have the kids on activity based syllabus. It’s certainly too much for JS, but that’s only my opinion :)

I really regretted on my school choice. Must admit this was a big mistake I have made. Like the cantonese said “cing gan man gan, gan ke lan teng zan” (made a thousand and million choices, but end up with the worst choice)…what to do no montessori playschool around my house and somemore already year end, still feel like pulling her out from this school right now. Even until now JS still cry occationally when I sent her to school.. like today.. hopefully her new school will be much ideal and hopefully this time round is the correct choice.
By the way JS’s school HQ is aggressively advertising now, even in TV claiming to have won blah blah blah , nnnn awards…*pui*

It’s a lot for a 4yo kid (orange, orchid long words) but JS is doing very well on her writing. My boy wants me to hold his hand when writing (born on Nov 2002). He only can write on his own by 2H of 2006…think his motor development is ready. kekeke

certainly is a little tough on the little kiddos. When my girl is in the mood, she probably will write nicely ,but if she’s tired, distracted, all the writing gone haywire.

THis is probably just another senseless homework to keep the kids occupied and mummies daddies happy that their precious child is doing and learning something in school. This is anything but learning. Do you think the child learnt anything by stranding her little fingers trying to complete this writing? They learn to hate writing and avoid writing at all cost!! It’s so wrong and against the developmental needs of children and their sensitive periods.

that’s why I strongly against of all these writing in an early year. It serve no purpose.
